In my career as a journalist, I have written for Reuters, GQ, Daily Maverick, Mail & Guardian, Getaway and City Press where I served as arts and lifestyle editor. I have interviewed and profiled nearly 100 ‘movers and shakers’ for the Mail & Guardian 200 Young South Africans in four years and been long-listed for the City Press Non-fiction Award for my memoir, Boy On The Run, signed to be published with Jacana Media early next year.
The Gerald Kraak anthology shortlisted my writing in the anthology titled As you like it: The Gerald Kraak Anthology, African Perspectives on Gender, Social Justice and Sexuality. The Anthology won the Lambda Literary Award for Best Anthology in 2019. My writing published in that anthology was part of the curriculum in the Anthropology department at the University of Johannesburg.
I hold a bachelor of arts with honors in Media and Anthropology from the University of the Witwatersrand, where I served in the student representative council as the first independent candidate to do so in over a decade, in the same year that I served as the vice president of the top achiever’s society, Golden International Honor’s Society Wits Chapter.
I completed a Masters degree in Journalism and media studies at Rhodes University, where I served as editor-in-chief at OppiTV, a student-based broadcasting publication during the politically-charged Rhodes Must Fall protests.
I am also working as a storyline consultant on GLOW: The Vogue Opera, a modern opera on the life and trials of Simon Nkoli, to be composed by the renowned Philip Miller.
My most recent publication is with a peer-reviewed academic publication, the Journal for Contemporary African Studies.
